Checking your facebook like button

If you are having problems with the facebook like button Facebook provide an online debugging tool, which will give you detailed information about the page and any errors that may be affecting the like button:

For some strange reason (known only to facebook), many problems with facebook buttons have suddenly resolved themselves after running the facebook debugging tool!

Go To Facebook Debugging Tool

  • The box with “thumbs up” displays “like” next to it instead of a number. And blue ” f ” shows number of people like instead “like” next to it. You can see at
What do I need to setup differently?

  • Like your plugin easy to install and setup… but only Linkedin, Stumbledupon, pinterest Icon displayed BUT NO facebook, Twitter, and google +1 icons displayed. Ran the website through debugger but to no avail. However, I do have Linkedin, facebook, Twitter, and google +1 icons displayed on top of every page to create followers, they are not for sharing content. Any solution to fix this?

    • Make sure the default skin option is checked in the plugin settings page.

  • Hi Lee,
thanks for the plugin and your advice due to FB issues for which certainly Mark Zucky should make a huge donation ;-)
Obviously the debugger solved half of my problems. The other is probably a matter of CSS because the drop box which shows up after clicking the Like does not appear as an overlay. That surely makes people escape the like thing before “OK” or even without making a comment.
Did you see this before and what could be a fix?
    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi Lee,

Thank you for this plugin, it’s great.

One question: I debugged the homepage and now the FB button shows the correct count, but do I need to debug all of the other pages of the website now? I hope not :)

    • Hi,

If the other pages are working ok then no need

  • Guys I need help. i have been knocking my head against the screen all day to fix the darn facebook button with no avail. the facebook debugger is showing: Object at URL ‘‘ of type ‘article’ is invalid because the given value ” for property ‘fb:app_id’ could not be parsed as type ‘fbid’.

I used the app id (that i am already using on the front page as a widget) and still the same message. can anyone help?

    • Hi,

Try using the other type of facebook button. See if that helps

    • I am having the exact same problem –

Lee, could you provide some advice in laymans terms please? I will guarantee a donation if you can help me fix this problem. I can say currently I am happy not to have paid because both Facebook and Pinterest counters are not working on my homepage where as Google +1 and Twitter are.

      • Facebook Like button is now working but Pinterest Counter is not. This plugin seems so glitchy.

        • The ‘like’ button is now uploading the same article not the appropriate one per URL. This plugin sucks.

          • So facebook like button does actually work despite all of your useful comments?

BTW if the URL is wrong its due to your theme hijacking the wordpress query.

Then dont use it. Fortunately it is free and comments like your certainly dont inspire the people who make these FREE plugins for you to actually be bothered to continue. There is plenty of information in the comments and FAQ on how to fix your problem theme but unfortunately it does require you to actually maybe do something to find out the solution.

Not sure what you expect a plugin author to do when you bombard with comments and emails and then expecting an immediate (and dare I say FREE) solution when its night time on a weekend?

        • Obviously a problem with your theme. It seems to work quite well with the other 100,000+ uploads. Pinterest is a CSS problem – thats a free hint for you. You can fix that one yourself quite easily

      • Did we actually ask for a payment? Thats a rather offensive comment

One thing I have learned is dont trust anyone who makes the statement “I will guarantee a donation if fixed” – I presume that means you wouldnt donate if it worked perfectly.

Its quite obvious from your comments you havent tried all solutions

  • Object Invalid Value: Object at URL ‘‘ of type ‘article’ is invalid because the given value ” for property ‘fb:app_id’ could not be parsed as type ‘fbid’.

    • I forgot to actually ask my question. Anyone know what the appid is for this thing?

      • The app id you would need to create yourself with facebook. You shouldnt actually need one though in order to use the plugin

  • This is what I got when debugging (not too sure what all any of it means, though it’s liking but not posting anything):

    Response Code: 200
    Fetched URL:
    Canonical URL:
    Errors That Must Be Fixed

More Than One OG URL Specified: Object at URL ‘‘ of type ‘article’ is invalid because it specifies multiple ‘og:url’ values:,
Missing Required Property: The og:url property is required, but not present.
Missing Required Property: The og:type property is required, but not present.
Missing Required Property: The og:title property is required, but not present.

    • Hi,

There is another plugin also adding the facebook meta tags to the page, which may be confusing fcebook. You can disable the ones from slick social plugin by checking the “disable opengraph” box in the plugin options page

  • I Solved problem.

    The problem is;

    $meta_admin .= ”;

    if single post : article.

    • Hi,

Have updated the plugin. See version 1.3

  • Hi Lee,
Using plug-in, was very beautiful. Thank you.

Like Facebook, but I ‘ve got a problem with the key. My issue is this.

I performed an operation in Bury. Facebook Facebook Debug Tool MV metatag data, but still I put to my problems, and this time says that the process is arrogance, but the number does not change.

    For example, the sample page;

Can you help me with this?

  • why doesn’t this link work? My like button is not working and I can’t fix it!

    • Nevermind, it’s working now and I think I got it fixed.

  • Wow… this is ridiculous. I spent all day trying to fix the damn button and I just had to run the debugger. Unf*cknbelievable darn facebook.
