The Facebook Like button is not working correctly

If you are having problems with the facebook like button first check that you have entered your Facebook Admin ID details into the Admin ID field in the plugin settings page.

To get the Admin ID number for a particular facebook user name you can use the following URL – replace “username” with the username of the profile you would like to check.

This URL will show the publically available information for the user, including the Admin ID number:

http://graph.facebook.com/username

  • I have a weird issue. The like button only displays the count for the facebook account i’m currently logged in to..

I have a test account on facebook.
I use that account to like a post on my site.
Everything works the way it’s suppose to.
But once I log out of that account from facebook.
Log into my primary facebook account.
The count box shows zero as if no one has ever liked the post.

    Please help, thank you.

    • Hi,

Do you have a link to the site where the plugin is installed?

  • So I tried to do this on an individual product post and it seemed to have worked. Is it possible to only work on posts and not the homepage?

    • Hi,

It should work on the home page. Have you tried the facebook debugging tool – Checking your facebook like button

      • Yes I have tried the debugging tool. For some reason it is still not working for my home page: http://www.activestatedesigns.com

        Any thoughts?

        • Try switching to the xbfml version and see if that works

          • Ok I tried that and the homepage still doesn’t show it? Try it, http://www.activestatedesigns.com like the page, then refresh. The like goes away. However on an individual product page if you like it, then refreash it sticks?

Also with the xbfml the popup is off to the right when my sharebar is on the right so you can’t see it. What’s the css to move that so it pops up to the left?

            Thanks,
            Lorne

  • Re: Slick Social Share Buttons plugin for WordPress. The other social buttons appear to work fine (twitter, +1, linkedin, etc.) however when I click the facebook button, the resulting popup window flashes open then closes, flashes open then closes, flashes open then closes, etc., until I kill the popup window. I’ve entered my FB Admin number in the settings. Any other ideas? Cheers.

    • Hi,

have you tried the litner tool. This usually fixes any facebook problems – FAQ Checking Your Facebook Like Button/

      • Hi Lee,
I ran my page(s) through the debug tool. It initially complained about the tag, which seems to be resolved if I provide a “default facebook image” in the plugin settings. I no longer get errors for those pages in the debug tool after providing a default image, however the flash-open-then-closed popup behavior for the facebook button persists.
        Cheers.

      • the tag was meta og:image … the tag name was removed from my prior post, possibly because I had enclosed it in angle-brackets.

      • I tried it out on a different computer today and all buttons work fine now. Not sure what’s up but maybe it’s a browser version issue. Thanks for the plugin, it’s great.

        • Hi,

All browsers should be compatible. Facebook can be temperamental and running the debugging tool usually corrects the problem although nobody can explain why

  • For the life of me I cannot get the Facebook like button to work.
    Admin URL: http://www.facebook.com/pages/LIFE-1936-1948/181875391886252
    So Admin ID is: 181875391886252
    Default Facebook Image: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=181876561886135
I’ve added these (but not the App ID) and still cannot get the button to work.

  • it doesn’t seem to work for me. it adds 1 to the likes, then goes back to 0

  • I put the number down as my admin Id, but what do I put down in the app id? the facebook icon on the slide out bar is greyed out and won’t let anyone like it.

    • Hi,

If you have entered an admin ID then you dont need to add an App ID.

If the facebook button is greyed out this means that you have already liked that page. Anyone else who hasnt liked it should see the usual blue button. You can check this by logging out of your facebook account

      • Ahhh, thank you very much :)

  • All of our “likes” have disappeared so that it shows no likes at the bottom of our blogs where once there were some. Any ideas? Is this a facebook issue rather than a wordpress issue? And if so, how do I get a hold of someone with FB to get this looked into? Thanks!

    • Hi,

Did this occur after installing the plugin? If so do you have a link to a page where the plugin is installed?

  • I am not having any joy with the Facebook Like button. It’s not working for me. I have followed your instructions re entering Admin ID but still not having any luck. My page is http://www.videomywedding.com.au/?p=918

    • Hi,

Try adding a default Facebook image URL in the settings page

  • And the Admin ID number for a Fan Page? is it only valid for profile page?
    Thanks
