  • Hi,
    I used your plugin for about 3 weeks now and it shows me in the Dashboard two errors:

    1. Add Link to Facebook – 1st day: Add link: (#240) Requires a valid user is specified (either via the session or via the API parameter for specifying the user. @ 2012-03-14T08:40:47+00:00

    2. Add Link to Facebook – Between 2.00 and 4.00 – self-interested: Get me: Error validating access token: User 100001783651924 has not authorized application 391210104223728. @ 2012-03-12T11:05:46+00:00

    though both posts were published and rest of posts are without errors.
    Please, how can I delete those two errors?
    Thank you.

    • Hi,

      The social media tabs plugin doesnt add any links to facebook.

  • I am using this plugin, everything seems working fine, except the close button, when the slider is opened, there is no close button, how a visitor is suppose to close the slider, I know there is an option of auto close, but I nee dot give visitor an option to close the slider.

    • hi,

      The slider should close if the active tab is clicked. You can use CSS to style this differently if you want to make it more obvious to the user that this will close the slider

  • Hello,

    Thank you for creating this plugin it works great! Only thing is mine won’t slide automatically. I have tried several different settings but can’t quite figure out what is wrong. Any ideas? Thank you.

    Best,

    Kelly

    • Hi,

      Sounds like a jquery error. Check the page using firebug to get more details on what may be causing the problem and also see faq section and previous comments for possible solutions

  • This is now my third comment for this plugin and with no feedback, as of yet.

    I just deactivated the widget because now when I go to my wp dashboard>appearance>widgets…..I can NOT click on anything, I can’t drag anything, I can’t edit my widgets area at all!!!!!!

    Can anyone help me with this? Thank you!!!!

    • Hi,

      Your last comment was sent at 2:36 am and this comment is 8:21 am … not quite sure what response you were expecting.

      There should be no reason why the plugin would create this problem unless there are issues with other plugins and jQuery UI. Try disabling the other plugins one by one and see if that corrects the problem

      • Thanks Lee for your reply. Yes, I left a comment on the plugin post as well on Mar 23. As I said, I’m sure you are loaded down with help questions and I’m sure you have had to answer many same-like questions repeatedly. So thank you for your time on this. From what I read online it’s not from the plugin but from the jquery/javascript relating to “wp_enqueue_script and jquery-ui-core” files. So I figured it’s from the wp_enqueue coding I inputted from your query help post to enable the sliding function of the plugin, as the problem started after that coding was inputted. I deleted that coding, but I’m still locked out. Any idea of how to fix this….please. I have no idea how to correct jquery or ui files. Is there another coding I can input or can I reinstall my functions.php file ?? Maybe in adding or deleting your code string, I offset the original code? Or I really don’t know. Our IT is out on a long holiday and I’m clueless at this point. I want to both use the social media plugin and correct this problem for access. I also read online, it could be as simple as clicking the screen options in the top right corner of wp dashboard and making sure accessibility is set to off, but I’m not able to open any drop down menus or drag/drop widgets. I’ve tried from Safari and Firefox.

        Again, thank you for your time on this…
        Anna

      • Hey Lee. Found your paypal link and just made a donation through my personal gmail address…hope you can help me make this plugin work as a sliding side, such as your demo illustrates. Thank you!
        Anna

        • Hi,

          Thank you for the donation.

          There is an error in some javascript code in your theme files, which is causing the problem. The error is in the following code:

          <script type="text/javascript">
          			function recordOutboundLink(link, category, action) {
          				_gat._getTrackerByName()._trackEvent(category, action);
          				setTimeout('document.location = "' + link.href + '"', 100);
          			}

          		if(typeof jQuery == 'function') { /* use jQuery if it exists because it is a more elegant solution */

          				jQuery('a').click(function () {
          					var href = jQuery(this).attr('href');
          					if ( (href.match(/^http/)) && (! href.match(document.domain)) ) {
          						recordOutboundLink(this, 'Outbound Links', document.domain);
          					}
          				});

          		}
          		else { /* use regular Javascript if jQuery does not exist */
          			window.onload = function () {
          				var links = document.getElementsByTagName('a');
          				for (var x=0; x < links.length; x++) {
          					links[x].onclick = function () {
          						var mydomain = new RegExp(document.domain, 'i');
          						if(!mydomain.test(this.getAttribute('href'))) {
          							recordOutboundLink(this, 'Outbound Links', document.domain);
          						}
          					};
          				}
          			};
          		}
          		</script>

          If you remove the above code (which is recording outgoing links in google analytics) it should fix the problem

  • Hey Lee! I’m sure you are overrun with help questions, but I installed this plugin on my site and it won’t work/slide/link/click as a sliding widget…only as a regular widget. I have tried everything listed in your FAQ, I have installed the coding to functions.php, I have removed all unnecessary plugins…still nothing. Please help. Thank you a million times!

  • Hi. The plugin is placed on my right sidebar widget area. It works great EXCEPT with IE… I´ve tried internet explorer 9 and basically all the graphics, icons, frame, the whole thing is just all over the place.

    I´ve disconnected all plugins but still not working, so the problem is not plugin conflict with other plugins, but Internet Explorer…

    Please advise on how to fix that?

    Many thanks

    • Then its probably a javascript error specific to internet explorer as it sounds like the jquery isnt loading

      • Many thanks, will check it out and see what results I get.. cheers

  • Hi, great work
    Can i change icons position from top to right side in static mode? thanks

    • Hi,

      Yes no problem. You should be able to handle this by modifying the default CSS file

      • hi, tanks four response.
        i tiered to change this but i have no sucess. any help?
        thanks a lot

  • Hi Lee,

    Another question about css fixes. I have applied this plugin to Arras theme, but there are some minor css fixes to be done.

    Currently on inspecting it I get default width and height:

    element.style {
    height: 290px;
    width: 240px;
    }

    How could I edit these. Also, is there any css file which overrides the css ?

    Thanks,
    Achin

    • These are set according to the width and height input into the widget control panel

  • Hi Lee

    Do you have an social media icon just for email?

    Thanks!

    • Hi,

      There isnt one built into the plugin but you can use the spare tab with a custom shortcode

  • Hi, I love this plugin on other sites I do, but I just wondered, could we add other tabs to it? Like soundcloud and youtube etc?

    Thanks

  • Hi Lee,

    I want to have a tab for LinkedIn for my Blog which is currrently under Development.Wanted to know if I could get shortcodes handy ?

    I have a LinkedIn url for a company , and I want to pull in feeds from that page.

    Please suggest me how to proceed.

    Thanks,
    Achin

    • Hi,

      You need a shortcode for the linkedin widget

  • I really like this widget. It’s perfect for this project. I am having a couple problems with it though. The most important one is the last tab (regardless of what it is) doesn’t show the content. I’ve tried unistalling, reinstalling and even rearranging the tab order. No luck. If I add another tab below then the one that wasn’t showing content starts showing content.

    The other issue, far less important, is when i have the slider open and click to another tab in the widget the widget just closes and doesn’t scroll to the next tab. Every once in a while it will work properly but most of the time it just closes. I noticed it doesn’t do this on IE but it does on Safari. I’m wondering if it’s just a browser issue?

    • Sounds like a browser issue with a jquery error somewhere in the page. Check the page using firebug to see if you can find any other problems

      • Thanks Lee

        From what I can tell firebug isn’t showing any problems. Then again I may not be looking in the right spot. I’m not sure what I’m missing.

        If you want to look at it the url is

        http://commbridge-translations.com

        thanks.

  • I am also getting the Twitter error (just like it shows on YOURs at the top of this page).

    This plugin is so fantastic, why allow it to be ruined by this stupid problem….which is a BIG deal for me.

    Every other twitter plugin i’ve seen has not had this problem. How can this be fixed…FOR REAL this time?

    • See previous comments regarding the causes of this REAL problem

      • “This is usually caused by a twitter problem. Most of the time its due to a limit that twitter impose on the number of calls that can be made per hour to their API. This should reset every hour though”

        Okay, why does it call over 150x an hour? Can’t you limit this to once a minute? As I said, I have not seen any other Twitter feed have this problem, so it can’t be all Twitter, it seems unique to your widget

        • it covers all of your calls to the twitter api for any twitter widget on sites you visit.

          • but can’t you change that? what do other twitter widgets use so that problem never happens (because i’ve NEVER seen it happen on another twitter widget)

          • ok, well why does no other twitter widget have this problem then?

          • I have another website, http://www.onlinephishtour.com, and i have never in 3 years experienced this with our twitter thing…my new business site has seen this problem within an hour of installing it.

  • Hi , I’m trying to add a LindedIn profile to the custom section – not sure what to insert for the shortcode however – how does it work ?

    Regards,
    Paul.

    • Hi,

      You would either need to have a plugin installed, which creates a linkedin shortcode or have the shortcode function in your theme’s functions.php file.

      Once the shortcode is available you just enter the relevant code into the custom text field and it will be inserted into the tabs

  • I am getting errors as per below. I can confirm that the file is indeed not in the path referenced.

    File does not exist: /home/domain/public_html/wp-content/plugins/social-media-tabs/js/jquery.admin.js, referer: http://domain.local/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=social-media-tabs

    Obviously, domain.local has been substituted for my actual domain name.

    • Hi,

      Thanks for the info and will issue an update. In the meantime it shouldnt adversely impact the plugin as the file isnt required

  • Any way to show a facebook wall feed?

    • Hi,

      Not with the current version of the plugin

  • Hello Design Chemical team!

    I love your social media tabs plugin, and today I wanted to install it to a friend’s blog, but: the plugin just appears weird (despite the same theme being installed) – the content windows is sliding shiftet right next to the icons (instead of below) and thus, not having enough space, is running out of the sidebar. You can see what I mean here:
    http://www.fotos-hochladen.net/uploads/wpsocialmediajpo1ady2rh.jpg

    Do you have any idea why this is happening? The only difference between our blog setups is that he’s still using WordPress 3.2.1 (yes, I know, he should update – I keep telling him all the time…) and mine being on 3.3.1

    Could that explain the problem?

    Thank you so much for answering – and for programming this (generally ;) fantastic plugin!

  • Hi Lee,

    Is it possible to customize a tab to include a flickr photo gallery?

    • Hi,

      Actually I already have flickr set up in a test version. Will add to the next update

  • Twitter is showing an error message, and I can’t make it go away! What do I do??

    • Twitter have a limit of 150 calls per hour to the API for all twitter widgets. Try waiting a while and see if the error message goes away

      • Hey Lee, is there anyway for use to limit the amount of twitter calls or at least change the time interval at which it checks? Thanks!

        • The latest update now includes additional caching of the results

  • Hi

    When I activate this plugin on my site (also the slick social shares plugin), I have bullets appearing near each social site’s logo. How to I remove this? You can see what I’m talking about in this image: http://bit.ly/zsceEM.

    Thanks!
    Todd

    • Hi,

      Try adding the following to your theme’s style sheet:

      #nav-dcssb, #nav-dcssb li, .social-tabs, .social-tabs li {list-style: none!important; background: none;}

      • Hi Lee

        Thanks for replying.

        It worked partially… If you look at a my live site (http://www.freeisraeladventures.com/trip-details/faq/) you’ll see there is still one bullet.

        Also, will this fix the the “share buttons” plugin as well – or I need a different code for that?

        Thanks,
        Todd

        • Hi,

          Add the following CSS:

          li.tab-content {background: none!important;}

          It should also work for the social buttons plugin

          • Thanks!! Worked great!!
